Zeus Cat

Our cat Zeus

This is a painting I did in acrylic paint on canvas of my cat Zeus.
This was extremely difficult as he is completely white!! Luckily for me he has huge ears and lovely green eyes <3
I've wanted to paint him for along time but never really had the guts, I've never painted an animal portrait before, let alone a white cat!! However, I think I did a really super job, I am going to attempt another but with him in a better position, 'cause he really does just look like a white blob. :P:P

Making do.

Make do and Mend

This was a painting I did with acrylic paint and canvas.
Just in case you hadn't noticed the canvas has a really big hole in it and a little slit in the bottom left corner, it was bought like this. (Discounted too  :D:D)

I wanted to do something quite fun so I thought the tentacles would be a good decision as I could chose any colours I wanted, I went for the blues and greens because they're cool colours, literally, and that's what you kind of expect from sea creatures right?

Anyway, this was really good fun to do, it allowed me to be really swishy and creative, you can just let it all out with a painting like this. :):)

Who said punks dead?

Who said punks dead?

This is an acrylic painting on canvas that I
have done inspired by the events all happening in England this year, The Olympics being the big one. Now, when I think of typical England I think of  'Fish & Chips', 'Tea & Scones' and Punk Rock. It all started in London, with 'The Sex Pistols ' and a very talented lady called Vivienne Westwood. I have done several projects on punk fashion and I found that Tartan came up alot!! I have had a fascination with it ever since! This seemed like the perfect oppurtunity to bring back the punk to good old England. :):)

I'm really pleased with this painting and my mum couldn't wait to stick it on the wall as she was part of this punk movement. :D:D

Kiss of Death

The Kiss of Death

This is another Acrylic painting on canvas that i've done.
I'm really getting into these!! I'm loving the texture of the canvas and the more messy style of painting, also using a lot of paint, I found this hard to do when I first started painting on the canvas, I found myself spreading the paint out and smoothing it as much as I could and soon realised it was deffinately NOT the way forward. :):):)

There wasn't really any inspiration for this painting it was a bit of a play about, it took my quite a while to think of what to put with the skull, I thought of the lipstick kiss but was super nervous because I had NEVER attempted to do them before. I decided to just go for it and it worked suprisingly well :D:D:D

I'm super impressed by this painting and my skulls are getting loads better!! :):)

Practice really does make perfect.

Skulls and Roses

Skulls and Roses

My Iron fist shoes there too ;)
This is a pretty classic mix, the skull and the roses.

It is also a very inspirational design, you can do almost anything with the skull and the rose and people will love it. The elegance of the Rose balances out the dim story behind the skull, they go hand in hand.

I've taken a big interest in the skull and the rose ever since i've decided tattoo's were a gods gift.
Like I said, it's a classic!!
So, I took it apon myself to have another shot at the skull and rose.
My first attempt was tattooed onto my left foot. :):):)

My second attempt has been put onto canvas using acrylic paint.
It came out beautiful and it is based on a more traditional tattoo style. I personally think I did a pretty ace job but I think maybe more practice for the style of the rose.

First canvas!!

First canvas painting!!

This is my first ever canvas painting!!
I used Arcylic paint and I had to use it quite thick for the paint to look better on the canvas.

My influence was obviously my previous posts about the candy skulls, I did have a go with chalk but the lines weren't very crisp so I tried it with the paint, unfortunately for me, my brushes suck!! So the lines aren't very clean at all. :S:S
I know that this isn't perfect but like I said it was my first, so I only used the smaller canvas which was a shame because if it was bigger I could have easily put more detail in it.

Practice makes perfect!! So i'll have to keep practicing.  :):)

All in all I think I did pretty well, and I will deffinately be using this media again!!

My way

My Candy Skull

This is a chalk drawing I did of the candy/sugar skull. I chose chalk to do it because I like how quickly it can be done and how soft it makes the image look, I chose to do it in black and white because this was a first attempt.....ever. I used the black and white just so I could get used to the shapes and where everything could go.

The hair is my favourite bit!!! I love the waves and the curves, it's really pretty. Also, the eyes are the eye-catchers and these will be the bits that I carry on to a more colourful candy skull i'll do a bit later. The web in the nose looks quite nice too so maybe that's another element i'll use.

I think it turned out pretty well, it was a lot of fun to play around with and you can be really open with design on the face, it was a lot of fun so this deffinately wont be the last. :D:D
Zeus helped and got black chalk on his nose. :):)

Newspaper birdies

Newspaper Birds

These little birdies were part of a project at college that I did.
These are made from newspaper and masking tape, then painted with white arcylic paint, also to make the legs and feet I used wire, So keep that in mind when trying these little beauties out.

Well we got a bird project at college and this technique was shown to us, i'm not too sure if it was influenced by another artist or if it was my teachers clever idea. It's very easy to do, just roll the newspaper into a long sausagey kinda shape, I had to bend it and twist it to make it a birdy shape, keep it tight!!! If you don't it will be seriously difficult to wrap with the masking tape, which is the next step of corse!! :P:P  Keep wrapping 'till you happy with the shape and try and get a bit of a point for the beak and a flat-ish bit at the other end for a tail.
Then just paint it wite. I used arylic paint because it's so thick and it covers better.

I think these were pretty amazing!! I did three to make up a little collection, they're super easy to make and I think they're really successful, I think they'd look really cute sitting up on high shelf, or you could stick them in some little bird cages. whutever!!!!

The possibilities are endless with them.

Watercolour

Watercolour pencils

So I did quite a 'heavy' impression of my own eye.
Using watercolour pencils. These are pretty new to me but i have had a little practice.

Well it didn't turn out exactly as planned but I adore the way it turned out!!
First I used the colour pencils to quickly sketch out the shapes and then shade in the colour, when I was done I used a wet paintbrush and literally just brused over the top, I think I used a litle bit too much water hence the splashes and the way the colours have run, but I really think it gave a really good effect.

I loved the technique because it was super quick and I find it hard to work neatly with paint so it was just how I like it!!!
It probably isn't how you're supposed to use the watercolour pencils but...... who cares?!?!!
What kind of artist would I be if I stuck to the rules? :):)
I would advise giving it a go, the colours are fantastic and it really wasn't difficult.

Perfect. <3

Day Of The Dead!!

Day of the dead!!

Nope, not today.
However!! I've become very obssed with the art work involved, and the way it has expanded.
I think everyone has an idea in their head what the sugar/candy skulls look like so there is such a wide variety of beautiful art!!
It's become a big hit with the trick or treaters as well I've noticed, face paints and masks are being created and brought to life on Halloween night, and also in some music videos I've seen. My favourite bit is that they make for amazing tattoo's!! It would be an amazing photo shoot as well.

Jewellery is being made with these designs on, shoes, shirts and bags.
What an amazing idea.

I  had ago on my own face and honestly it's much harder than it looks with face paints, especially the rubbish ones I ended up with!! But you know what they say, "A good work man never blames his tools" so yeah. :(:(   :D

I think It's inspired me enough to do a bit of an art project on, who knows what I'll come up with!!! :D:D:D
My own attempt.

Iron Fist

Iron FIST

My all time favourite alternative label.
It's one of THE very best!! (In my opinion)
It's a complete clothing line but their shoes are a goddess' gift!!
They're like nothing you've ever seen before, and neither have your friends!!
I don't know a person that doesn't adore at least 3 pairs of Iron Fist shoes!!
Unfortunately for me I only own 2 pairs, sucks to be me. :(:(

I've found that Iron Fist go absolutely crazy with their colours, on all of their products and the design is so perfect!! They have things to suit all the girlie's, sparkly shoes, sequined shoes but they still manage to get them to be so unique!! Perfection. <3

Have a nose at these beauties!!

"That painting lark."

So, I've found out where my artistic mind has come from.
Both of my nan's have started painting..... really well!!
Both are now using canvas' and oil paint. I have hardly touched canvas but after seeing their paintings I've been desperate to have a go. Maybe when I do one I can get a picture on here to show you!!

Both nan's attended an art course on watercolours; after 4 years of practice watercolour is one of my favourite paints to use, but neither nan's really got into it (they were still super cool!!) So they tried acrylic/oil paints, and it's unbelievable how fast they picked it up! I thought the saying was "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" WRONG!! Clearly.
They've got into it so much that one has started to sell her paintings at cafes and little museums and the other uses them as gifts!!  (Easily good enough to be sold!!)  The picture is one of the paintings that my nan has done, with the oil paints and canvas, she does a lot of scenery.

Well done to both of you!! Really proud. <3
